The Environmental Committee plays a vital role in Borough life, from organizing Oradell's Farmers Market to implementing a waste vegetable oil program for DPW trucks; leading town beautification projects; and working with schools, scout troops, and other community organizations on environmental education.
Committee members keep at the forefront of environmental developments and undertake training in cutting-edge initiatives, such as the Geese Peace Program, which helps control the resident geese population in a humane manner. They also assist Borough officials by assessing potential grant opportunities, conducting map studies of Oradell's green and open spaces, and reviewing the Borough's Master Plan for issues related to environmental impact.
The Environmental Committee spearheaded Oradell's efforts to achieve Bronze certification in the state's Sustainable Jersey program. Oradell was awarded this honor by Sustainable Jersey in 2014.
The group meets on the first Wednesday of every month at 7:30 p.m. in Borough Hall's Caucus Room.
